Fall Oz Events

One of the most popular of all Oz events opens Sept. 8 when the Land of Oz in Banner Elk, North Carolina, hosts Autumn in Oz. Now privately owned residential property, the mountain top site was home to the Land of Oz theme park in the 1970s. Dorothy's farm, the Yellow Brick Road and the Emerald City drew families for a decade to an authentic Wizard of Oz experience that thrilled young fans. For more than 20 years “Autumn in Oz” has allowed the public to revisit the Yellow Brick Road. Performances by costumed characters, Oz vendors, and throngs of fans return every year for the celebration.

Sept. 23 the Dallas Arboretum opens its annual fall festival with a Wizard of Oz theme. More than 90,000 ”Pumpkins, Squash and Gourds, Oh My!" are fashioned by a 50-member horticultural team into vignettes from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and photo opportunities for visitors. The event remains open through Nov. 22; more than 250,000 people visited the arboretum during last year's event. See dallasarboretum.org for special events scheduled in conjunction with the festival.
